Osaka Ohsho at SM Megamall

We finally got to try Osaka Ohsho at SM Megamall last week. We ordered the following set meals: Kiddie Prawn Tempura Set, Black Vinegar Chicken Set and Chicken Karaage Toji Set.

Dipping sauces: Miso, Osaka Ohsho Original and Chili Oil

You have three dipping sauces to choose from at Osaka Ohsho: Miso, Osaka Ohsho Original and Chili Oil. I was content with Osaka Ohsho Original for my Gyoza, while hubby preferred mixing Osaha Ohsho Original with Chili Oil.

Our meals arrived one after the other, and of course, no one could touch their food yet until I was done taking pictures. Lol! The first thing I noticed was where our main dishes were served. The tempura was placed in a small basket, the black vinegar chicken was served on a small platter, while the chicken karaage nicely sat on what looked like a small frying pan. I liked the variation!

Kiddie Prawn Tempura Set, Php260.00

When we were asking our son what kiddie set he wanted, he had nothing specific in mind, so I suggested the Kiddie Prawn Tempura Set. He was actually excited to eat because it was his first time to have tempura. He also liked the idea of having to dip the tempura in the sauce provided on his tray. He said “yummy” after his first bite, but after downing two pieces of tempura, he said he’s had enough. The Kiddie Prawn Tempura Set had three pieces of shrimp tempura, miso soup, Japanese rice and a small plate of watermelon and pineapple slices.

Black Vinegar Chicken Set, Php380.00

Hubby chose to have the Black Vinegar Chicken Set, which included the following: three pieces of Gyoza, a platter of Black Vinegar Chicken, miso soup, Japanese rice and fruits. It smelled like vinegar alright, but it didn’t taste extremely sour. It had a pleasant taste actually, and I enjoyed it more than the Chicken Karaage Toji Set that I ordered.

Chicken Karaage Toji Set, Php385.00

Like hubby’s order, the Chicken Karaage Toji Set also came with Gyoza, miso soup, Japanese rice and a small fruit plate. Hubby and I both enjoyed the Gyoza, Osaka Ohsho’s specialty, which was slightly crispy on the outside but meaty and juicy on the inside. The chicken, though, which was slightly soupy and topped with egg, was too salty, so I gave most of it to hubby.

Apple Lychee Soda, Php125.00 and Bottomless House Blend Iced Tea, Php98.00

Their Bottomless House Blend Iced Tea is infused with peach flavor, so it takes getting used to. The Apple Lychee Soda was okay.

  4. I love Japanese food but I haven’t been to Ortigas area for a looonng time. Would you have a rundown of the best Japanese restos in the area? 🙂 I always find myself in Makati if I have Japanese cravings, hahaha 🙂

  5. I’d go for the Black Vinegar Chicken Set, too. I wonder if your son likes miso soup. Because my boy doesn’t, haha! 🙂

  6. I haven’t been back at Osaka Ohsho, but I might just get the Black Vinegar Chicken Set (love that stuff!) and an a la carte of the nori gyoza. 🙂 Anyway, how did you find the gyoza?

  7. The Black Vinegar Chicken and Cheese Gyoza, I love! You should try the desserts as well. 🙂
