It was October last year when we first visited Sunnies Café at SM Megamall. Being first-timers here, hubby and I played it safe by ordering their recommended dishes: Spicy Garlic Butter Shrimp and Pan-seared Miso Salmon. Our son went for one of his favorite pasta dishes, the Creamy Carbonara.
Hubby’s Spicy Garlic Butter Shrimp is fresh garlic butter-roasted shrimp with chili fingers, black bean puree, salsa and cilantro lime rice. This was delightful! I know because I had some of it. The combination of garlic, butter and chili made the shrimp even more appetizing. I didn’t try the salsa and rice, though, just the shrimp.
My order, the Pan-seared Miso Salmon, is miso-glazed salmon with scallion brown rice and simple salad. I particularly liked the simple salad of lettuce, tomatoes, onion and sweet corn kernels with a sweet and tangy dressing. It went well with the miso salmon and the brown rice with green onions.
Our son’s Creamy Carbonara is linguini with smoked bacon, sous vide egg and Grana Padano cheese. There are two technical terms here that I’m not familiar with, so I had to find out what they mean. Anovaculinary.com says sous vide (pronounced sue-veed with the accent on the second syllable) is “the process of vacuum-sealing food in a bag, then cooking it to a very precise temperature in a water bath.” Grana Pradano, on the other hand, is a kind of cheese that originated from Italy made from unpasteurized cow’s milk. According to cheese.com, it’s “one of the few cheeses that can possibly compete with the King of Cheeses, Parmigiano-Reggiano.”
These two foreign terminologies alone (sous vide and Grana Pradano) already piqued my interest in this pasta dish, but I dared not touch it for fear of my son’s wrath. Lol! But his thumb of approval was already enough indication that he enjoyed it.
Sunnies Café has a wide range of food choices (soup, salad, all-day brunch, main course) and drinks, both hot and cold. There’s something for each member of the family in this cafe, so it’s really worth a visit.
