We were at Kam’s Roast in SM Megamall last weekend. Kam’s Roast is a Michelin-starred restaurant popular for their roast goose. However, importing of goose from China is not allowed for health reasons, so Kam’s Roast is offering roast duck, instead of goose, in the Philippines.
As we were quite in a hurry to watch a movie, we ordered what we thought wouldn’t take long to prepare: their Single Roast on Rice meals. We asked for two orders of Roast Duck Rice and one order of Crispy Roast Pork Rice.
Roast Duck Rice is steamed white rice with roast duck, roast duck gravy, and stir-fried bok choy with plum sauce on the side. I wouldn’t normally eat the roast duck skin (as I already have enough bad cholesterol in my body), but for this day, I made an exception. I ate everything on my plate, leaving nothing but duck bones. The tender roast duck with soft, rather than crispy skin, was a delight to the palate! The sweet plum sauce also nicely complemented the delicious, smoky taste of the roast duck.
Looks appetizing, eh? This Crispy Roast Pork Rice with mustard wasabi sauce actually tasted as good as it looked. Our 12-year-son fully enjoyed it even without the sauce. It already tasted good on its own, and the skin was so crispy you wouldn’t want to stop biting into it. The only downside to it is that it has lots of fats, which is a big no-no for me, but A-okay for the young/healthier ones every once in a while. Try it. I’m sure you’ll love it, too!
While father and son went for their usual beverages (Coke and iced tea), I chose to pair my lunch with a healthy drink, Homemade Barley (drink on the right). It’s slightly sweet with a taste that reminded me of rice water or am but without the grassy flavor of barley. I requested for a cold one, but this glass didn’t have ice in it.
Overall, we enjoyed our hurried lunch at Kam’s Roast, and we’re looking forward to savoring their other appetizing dishes very soon.
